My Blog
This is where I share a little more of my heart, knowledge, and lived experience in pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and motherhood.
You’ll find supportive information, honest reflections, nourishing recipes, helpful local resources, book recommendations, and practical tips for growing families.
I add new posts regularly, so follow Lost Coast Doula on Instagram or Facebook to stay connected and see what’s new.
Today I had the privilege of attending a community information session focused on pregnancy loss and the support available for families in our area.
Miscarriage and abortion can bring grief, relief, confusion, hope, heartbreak or several of those emotions all at once. Every experience is different, and every person deserves to have their experience met with compassion instead of assumptions.
After the meeting, I spent the afternoon wandering through the farmers market with my toddler, bringing home a little lavender plant and admiring all the flowers. It reminded me that healing rarely happens all at once. Sometimes it looks like sitting with someone while they cry. Sometimes it’s making sure they eat lunch. Sometimes it’s a quiet walk outside or planting something that will bloom later.
As a doula, I believe support shouldn’t begin only when a healthy baby is expected. People deserve care through every pregnancy outcome.
I’m honored to offer miscarriage and abortion doula support, including emotional support, practical care, and follow-up visits. These services may also be covered through Medi-Cal, and I’m always happy to help families find out what benefits their insurance includes. For those without coverage, I also offer reduced-cost care because everyone deserves support during this time.
If this is a journey you’ve experienced or if someone you love is walking through it now, please know you don’t have to do it alone. 🌿🤍

Do you have a dog? A cat? Maybe a reptile, chickens, or even a fish that only gets fed once a week?
When you’re making your birth plan, don’t forget about your furry (or scaly!) family members🐾
Labor doesn’t always happen on schedule, and you may be away from home longer than expected. Think about:
• Who will feed them?
• Who can let the dog out or take them for a walk?
• If you have medications or special feeding instructions, where are they?
• Does your pet sitter know where your supplies, food, and vet information are?
Having a simple pet care plan means one less thing to think about while you’re focused on bringing your baby into the world. ❤️
Your birth plan isn’t just about labor, it’s about making sure life at home is taken care of, too.

🌿 Try picturing an ocean pulling the water in and out, or the soft tumble of droplets from a waterfall
One thing I’ve learned is that no two people cope with labor the same way.
I’ve seen some people completely settle into a visualization. They close their eyes, picture a place that feels safe; a quiet forest, the beach, a creek and it helps them ride through each contraction with a little less tension.
And then there are people who try it and immediately say, “Nope, all I see is black.” 😅
That’s completely okay ✅
Comfort measures aren’t about finding the best technique. They’re about finding your technique. Sometimes that’s movement. Sometimes it’s breathing, counterpressure, music, or simply having someone beside you reminding you that you’re doing an incredible job 😊
My role isn’t to hand you one coping strategy and hope it works. It’s to help you discover what helps you feel calm, supported, and confident throughout your birth. 💚

🚩 Friendly reminder that you don’t have to climb a skyscraper to find a doula…
But if I have to wave a giant flag to remind you that birth support exists, I will. 😉
Whether you’re planning your first baby or your fourth, having continuous support can make all the difference.
(No rooftop climbing required.)

Just like birth, life isn't meant to be rushed. Today I soaked up the sunshine, took lots of deep breaths, and enjoyed the beauty around me with family and friends. I hope you found a moment to slow down today too.
Happy Fourth of July from Lost Coast Doula! ❤️🤍💙

You are the expert on your body, your baby, and your birth. 🌿
My role as a doula is not to make decisions for you. It is to help you feel informed, supported, and confident as you make the choices that feel right for your family💕
Birth support should feel respectful, personal, and empowering.

🍜 If you were my postpartum client, you’d know I’m testing a new Thai peanut chicken crockpot recipe!
One of my favorite parts of postpartum support is helping families eat well without adding more stress to their day. Meals don’t have to be complicated to be nourishing 🌱
This one is packed with protein from the chicken, healthy fats from peanut butter and coconut milk, ginger and garlic for flavor, and plenty of veggies. It’s simple, comforting, and breastfeeding-friendly.*💕☺️
I’m always looking for recipes that are realistic for busy families—and delicious enough that everyone wants seconds. 💚
What’s your favorite easy dinner?
*Every family’s nutritional needs are different. If you have dietary restrictions or specific health concerns, I’ll always encourage following your healthcare provider’s recommendations. #PregnancySupport #PostpartumSupport #HumboldtCounty #BreastfeedingJourney #LostCoastDoula
🌿 One of the most common pieces of advice during pregnancy is:
“Stay active.”
But what does that actually mean?
For many people, it doesn’t mean joining a gym or running miles every day.
Sometimes staying active looks like…
🌱 Taking a walk after dinner.
🌱 Gardening.
🌱 Folding laundry.
🌱 Stretching before bed.
🌱 Playing outside with your kids.
Movement doesn’t have to be perfect to be beneficial.
This week’s Rooted in Support blog is all about realistic ways to stay active during pregnancy, why movement matters, and how small daily habits can support both your body and your growing baby.
I’d love to hear from you:
What’s your favorite way to move your body?

One of the biggest surprises for many families is that labor doesn’t start at 10/10 intensity!
Early labor is often a time to rest, eat, hydrate, and settle into the rhythm of contractions. Active labor is when things usually become more intense and require more focus.
Knowing the difference can help reduce anxiety and make the process feel a little less overwhelming.
You’ve got this and you don’t have to do it alone! Contact me today to discuss how I can support your family🌿

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is the idea that there is a “right” way to give birth 🌱
Some families plan a home birth. Some choose an epidural. Some have inductions. Some need cesarean births. Most birth stories include twists and turns that couldn’t have been predicted.
As a doula, my role isn’t to push an agenda or tell families what choices to make.
Every birth deserves respect💕
What mattered most to you in your birth experience—or what do you hope will matter most in a future birth?

🌸 We talk a lot about pregnancy, birth, and newborns.
But we don’t talk nearly enough about what happens to the mother.
Just as adolescence is the transition from childhood to adulthood, matrescence is the transition into motherhood.
It can be beautiful, exciting, confusing, overwhelming, joyful, and exhausting—sometimes all in the same day.
If you’ve ever felt like you became a completely different person after having a baby, you’re not imagining it.
You were growing too.
This week on The Fourth Trimester Collective, I’m exploring postpartum recovery, identity, and the transition into motherhood. Check in this time tomorrow for an introduction.

Not every Friday night is exciting. Sometimes it’s just a good book, a giant lemonade, and a dream that’s slowly becoming reality. 💚
I’m spending the evening reading The Birth Partner, cuddling my son and continuing to learn everything I can so I can better support the families I work with 💕
Thank you to everyone who has followed along, shared a post, sent a message, or trusted me with a small part of your journey. It means more than you know❤️😊❤️

Prepping for postpartum support 📚💛
One of my favorite parts of becoming a doula is that the learning never stops. I love reading!
This week I’m diving into books on breastfeeding, newborn sleep, and life with a new baby. Every family is different, but the more I learn, the more tools I have to help parents feel confident and supported during those early weeks.
What’s one piece of advice you received as a new parent that actually helped?
#LostCoastDoula #PostpartumSupport #BirthDoula #HumboldtCounty #NewParents
Bringing home a new baby comes with a lot of surprises. 💚
Here are a few things many parents aren’t told:
🌿 It’s normal for newborns to lose some weight after birth.
🌿 Hiccups happen often and usually aren’t a cause for concern.
🌿 Cluster feeding can feel constant, especially in the early weeks.
🌿 Babies aren’t born knowing the difference between day and night.
🌿 Newborn sleep can be surprisingly noisy!
One of the biggest gifts we can give new parents is reassurance that many of these experiences are completely normal.
What surprised you most about life with a newborn? ⬇️
🌿 Don’t let newborn worries trip you up. If you’re expecting or recently welcomed a baby, I’d love to chat about how postpartum doula support can help you feel more confident and supported during those early weeks. Message me to schedule a complimentary consultation.

What Is Colostrum?✨
💛 Rich in antibodies
💛 Supports your baby’s immune system
💛 Produced in small amounts that match your newborn’s tiny stomach
💛 May begin leaking during pregnancy—or not at all
Both are normal.
Your body is doing incredible work long before your baby arrives. 🌿
