FAQs

What does a doula do?

1

A doula provides non-medical emotional, educational, and physical support during pregnancy, labor, postpartum recovery, and many reproductive healthcare experiences. My role is to help you feel informed, supported, grounded, and cared for throughout your journey.

Do you replace my doctor, mid-wife, or medical provider?

2

No. Doula support is designed to work alongside your physician, midwife, nurse, or healthcare team — not replace them. I do not provide medical diagnosis or treatment, but I do help provide emotional support, education, advocacy, and continuity of care.

What if I need support but I’m worried about the cost?

3

At Lost Coast Doula, I believe every woman and family deserves access to compassionate, evidence-based support, regardless of their financial circumstances. My services have set rates, but I also offer payment plans, sliding-scale options when available, and community-supported care. Families who are able to contribute more or make a donation help make it possible for another family to receive support at a reduced cost. I am also open to bartering or trade when possible. If cost is a concern, please reach out. I am happy to talk through options and find a plan that feels manageable for your family.

What if I’m not sure whether I want a doula yet?

4

That’s completely okay. I offer casual coffee chats and consultations so we can connect in a relaxed environment, answer questions, and see whether doula support feels like the right fit for you and your family. Book a consultation now and read more about doulas here!
